What if...

What if blizzard really makes a progressive realm from vanilla?
I'm sure you heard about it by now, with them shutting down nostalrius and the petition thats going on now...

I really doubt they would do that. Basically it'd be working against themselves, since the vast majority would prefer older expansions rather than the crap they're currently providing. (I still wouldn't play it tho, as I kinda think vanilla lacks lots of features that make the game interesting to me :P)

Basically, what Nye says. They'd cannibalize their own fanbase, spending resources not to pull in many more subs. I'm sure they will do it one day, probably when they abandon WoW and stop making expansions for it. I'd personally love a retail WotLK server -- in fact, it's the reason I originally started on TrueWoW, because it's the closest thing to it.

They spent a lot of manpower and budget into WoD, Legion and the upcoming movie, as well as Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, D3 and SC2, I really doubt they have extra resources to pull this off, and this would also conflict with their Legion release. And I'm not sure they've kept their old data and code from 2004 either.

It's hard to believe a company as big as Blizz wouldn't backup religiously every version of their cores.

We can revert our source back to 2010 if we wanted, so I doubt they can't do the same. Any version management tool can do that, and working without one in a project as big as the development of a game is just... well, let's say, unlikely to happen.

I guess realms like that are better than progressive from vanilla.

However I still don't think they'd do that and for yet another reason : the complete incompatibility of the old clients with the battle net environment (authentication, realid, and other things)

maybe after they release a final expansion and it goes on for some time, and then they begin to make realms of old expansions, i see it working that way only

You did a bad think? Does it affect me? No? Them Suffer in Silence.
You Crying now? You have no reason to cry, if some one cries is because they are sad.
