[TW] A change to the current BG system

#1 » Post by Gerfalx » 17 Jun 2020 01:22

After the (not so) recent changes to BG system, we're mostly getting WSG and EotS, with the very rare exception of SotA.
I think that many people are sick of just getting these ones, and some of them don't even want to go to BGs, knowing that it will be only these two (btw, while most people like WSG, EotS didn't win so much love).

My suggestion is not only reverting the changes to BG system, but also creating mechanics so that certain BGs can be queued on demand. I understand that making BG queue the same way as Dungeon Finder queue would be ridiculous with such amount of people who want to do PvP (like when 1 person queues for a specific dungeon, all others queue random, and then they all join one queue -- which basically means that 1 person determines which dungeon they all will go). But we can set a number of players (different for all BGs) which is required for people who queue specific BG to join the queue of people who queued random BG.
These numbers I suggest to be:
WSG - 2
AB - 2
AV - 3
EotS - 2
SotA - 3
IoC - 3 or 4

For instance, AV requires 6 players to start (and not to close if started). Then if 3 people queue AV specifically and 3 people queue random BG, they will all be put into the same queue and an AV will start.

Not a bad idea! I dont know however how much time (and programming) this might consume of developers and be implemented as intended. If easy to work it out +1, if not -1.

Before the BG changes, AV, SotA and IOC were quite common (despite queue numbers).
This proved to be frustrating to players. It was shown to us on multiple occasions that players simply chose to let larger BGs time-out rather than play them. After remaining in queue for quite a while, it's easy to see why players were unhappy with not getting into smaller BGs more often.

It is with this in mind that we implemented our changes to prevent larger BGs from starting with tiny teams.
Simply put, AV and IOC are not intended to played with such small numbers. The team dynamics involved demand more players. Our changes ensure that those BGs won't start unless there are more players available to man the teams.

We already have specific queues if you do not wish to play WSG and EoTS all the time.
AB was normally included in that but at the moment it's disabled due to stability issues.

Specific BGs and random BGs do not share a common queue, the way the Dungeon Finder does.
There would be a huge amount of work involved to implement this; Not to mention the fact that it would divert us away from focusing on more important issues at the moment (server stability, classes, etc).

We're already working on re-enabling AB. It will be available soon as we've stabilized it.
We'll consider moving SotA alongside EotS / AB to add more variety to the available selection of BGs, in light of AB's unavailability at the present time.

Strand of the Ancients requirements have been temporarily lowered until Arathi Basin is re-enabled for TW realm.
Hopefully, this will provide some variety for the time being.
