Requesting an reopening of the Chimera Shot - Serpent bug report

#1 » Post by Justicelight » 30 Dec 2019 16:24

Shandara, was one of EJ contributors which continued Cheeky`s work in the field of hunter theorycrafting. He is the creator of one of the highest number of views topic on EJ (around 2 milion views, 4500 replies) in which he took hunter to the next level, creating a spreadsheet that covers all 3 specs BM, MM and Survival. The topic can be found here: https://web.archive.org/web/20100807223 ... readsheet/

Midnight, another EJ contributor, took Shandara`s work and finalized it throughout the release of LK25HC and Halion, including those gear simulations into a spreadsheet based on Shandaras work. Here, once again, the topic got up to around another 2 milion of views with around 1200 replies. The topic can be found here: https://web.archive.org/web/20100807223 ... readsheet/

Midnight`s spreadsheet can be downloaded from here: https://web.archive.org/web/20100807223 ... PS_93k.xls

I am requesting the reopening of the "double-dip" issue with Chimera Shot - Serpent (https://truewow.org/bugs/view.php?id=3438), because I believe, the fix applied was robust, without taking into account valuable references. My reasons will rely mostly on spreadsheet calculations, and how the calculated damage coefficients of Serpent Sting and Chimera Shot - Serpent are being modified when unlearning certain talents. As an early conclusion: there are talents which are supposed to make hunter double dip with Serpent > Chimera Shot-Serpent. So here we go:

Current SS > CS-S interaction (Same talent tree used as in spreadsheet):
SS tick: 639 (http://prntscr.com/qhk0bx)
SS total damage: 639 * 7 = 4473
CS-S theoretical value: 4473 * 0.40 = 1789.2
CS-S non crit value: 1789 (http://prntscr.com/qhjzyo)

Initial spreadsheet talent tree: http://prntscr.com/qhjdjw

Spreadsheet initial coefficients:
[SS] Serpent Sting: http://prntscr.com/qhje1p
[CS-S] Chimera Shot - Serpent: http://prntscr.com/qhjeg5

Talents analyzed:
1) Focused Fire
Serpent Sting: http://prntscr.com/qhjha1
Chimera Shot - Serpent: http://prntscr.com/qhji7g

SS = -2% | CS-S = -2% (blizzlike double dip confirmed) :cross:

2) Mortal Shots
Serpent Sting: http://prntscr.com/qhjjhx
Chimera Shot - Serpent: http://prntscr.com/qhjj23

SS = unmodified | CS-S = critical damage increased :idea:

3) Improved Stings
Serpent Sting: http://prntscr.com/qhjk9h
Chimera Shot - Serpent: http://prntscr.com/qhjkqn

SS = -30% | CS-S = unmodified coefficients (modified damage due to SS -30%) :tick:

4) Ranged Weapon Specialization
Serpent Sting: http://prntscr.com/qhjm7j
Chimera Shot - Serpent: http://prntscr.com/qhjlpr

SS = unmodified | CS-S = -6% :cross:

5) Improved Steady Shot
Serpent Sting: http://prntscr.com/qhjmwt
Chimera Shot - Serpent: http://prntscr.com/qhjnep

SS = unmodified | CS-S = unmodified :tick:

6) Marked For Death
Serpent Sting: http://prntscr.com/qhjo91
Chimera Shot - Serpent: http://prntscr.com/qhjox7

SS = unmodified | CS-S = -6% :cross:

7) Improved Tracking
Serpent Sting: http://prntscr.com/qhjpxn
Chimera Shot - Serpent: http://prntscr.com/qhjqf2

SS = -5% | CS-S = -6% (blizzlike double dip confirmed) :cross:

Issues identified, please take into account the section above called Current SS > CS-S interaction:

1) Focused Fire
The theoretical value os CS-S should be increased by 2%, regardless of the damage of SS. At the moment the damage is only applied to SS.

2) Mortal Shots
Haven't yet tested, will do when I have time

4) Ranged Weapon Specialization
The damage increased provided by this talent should be included in the CS-S damage and not in the serpent sting damage. Currently the SS is receiving 5% damage increase from this talent, while this bonus should be applied on CS-S only. While this is more or less the same case, since we are talking about coeficients, the blizzlike scenario might give us different numbers if this gets fixed, because 5% applied to SS is different than 5% applied to CS-S in terms of total damage at the end of a fight.

6) Marked For Death
The theoretical value of CS-S should be increased by 5% (6% in spreadsheet due to approximations), regardless of the damage of SS. At the moment the damage is only applied to SS.

7) Improved Tracking
The theoretical value of CS-S should be increased by 5% (6% in spreadsheet due to approximations), regardless of the damage of SS, meaning there should be a desynced damaged between 0.4 * total SS damage and the final value of CS-S by an 1.05 coefficient.

Thanks for reading, and will come back with separate comments, in the bugtracker, if the report will be reopened.

The spreadsheet I used for this post: https://easyupload.io/snoh7f

After downloading the EJ spreadsheet (link is in the original post), you should do the following:
- open spreadsheet
- go to Pet tab -> select wolf
- go to Buffs tab -> Buff Profile row -> select No Buffs -> click Load Buffs to apply the setting
- as a double check, go to Talents tab -> on right side of the page, under Saved Specs -> select MM -> click Load Spec button

How you test interaction of talents with the spells coefficients:
- go to Talents tab -> check if the spec is correct
- go to Calculations tab -> identify the section for the spell you wish to see coefficients
- go to Talents tab -> modify talents -> go to Calculations Tab, desired section -> notice differences before/after

**Reserved space for procs and buffs interactions with SS and CS-S damage multipliers

i explained too many times, wont repeat, request rejected
A son asked his father (a programmer) why the sun rises in the east, and sets in the west. His response? It works, don’t touch!

Everyone says it's difficult to work with a person while they have a negative attitude or constantly exhibit uncooperative behavior.
