Optional Feature: Transmogrification

#1 » Post by Nyeriah » 25 Apr 2016 19:58

This feature is optional.
It does not affect your gaming experience - while playing at TrueWoW you'll never be under the effects of this feature under any means unless you have the feature enabled.

  • What is Transmogrification?
    • Transmogrification is a feature added at a later expansion of World of Warcraft that allows you to change how your items are visually displayed. It has no effect on your gaming experience, it does not alter item stats or give you any gaming advantage - it's purely cosmetic.

For more information on the retail version of Transmogrification, please check the Transmogrification page at wowwiki.
  • TrueWoW has always been against this feature. Why is it being added now?
    • At the first moment, we were extremely concerned about the stability of our core and how these changes could cause conflicts with future source changes. We were also worried about how it would impact our standards of Blizzlikeness and how our community would accept it.

Right now at the point we stand, at the current stage of development, we deemed that the Transmogrification feature will cause no harm to our current development scheme. On the other hand, it's also a vastly demanded feature by our community. But still, there were players negative towards it, so we addressed that as well by making it an optional feature.
  • What can we expect from it?
    • The Transmogrification feature has been quite flourishing and renewing so far. And we are happy for that. One of the major goals it's aimed to achieve is increase our activity by giving players new things to do when they're online, that is, as a source of motivation and new things to look forward. We should see more people running older content and even Wrath of the Lich King content that is out of play, such as Naxxramas more often.
  • What Transmogrification patch is TrueWoW using?
  • What do you mean by optional feature?
    • Players can choose whether they see other players in their Transmogrified gear or not. To that, they just need to use the in-game command ".settings transmog on/off" in order to enable the feature.

While it's off, players will not be able to see the transmogrification NPCs.
  • How can I use it? Does it have any level restriction?
    • To use the Transmogrification feature, travel to the NPCs with the gear you wish to transmogrify equipped and the item that you'll use to transmogrify it in bags. It does not have any level restriction, so any player may use it.
  • Where can I find these Transmogrification NPCs?
    • You'll find Warpweaver Dushar and Warpweaver Hashom in Orgrimmar and Stormwind, respectively.

NOTICE: You must have the "settings transmog" enabled in order to see them, otherwise they're not visible.
  • What is the current Transmogrification item rule set?
We are following (most of) Rochet's default rule set, which is Blizzlike.
    Default rules:
    • The character must be able to equip both items.
    • Only uncommon (green), rare (blue), heirloom (pale gold) or epic (purple) items may be transmogrified (exceptions: a select few of these items will be prevented from being used to transmogrify if they are deemed inappropriate).
    • Heirlooms and Account Bound items can be transmogrified.
    • Heirlooms and Account Bound items can be used to transmogrify.
    • At this point only appearance can be changed, stats can not be moved.
    • Items must share the same armor type (examples: plate for plate, cloth for cloth).
    • Weapons must be the same weapon type (exceptions: Guns, Crossbows, or Bows).
    • Guns, Crossbows, and Bows can be used to transmogrify Guns, Crossbows, or Bows.
    • Main hand weapons can only be used to transmogrify Main hand weapons.
    • Off-hand weapons can only be used to transmogrify Off-hand weapons.
    • One handed weapons can be used to transmogrify a Main hand or Off-hand weapon.
    • Using an item for transmogrify makes it soulbound. An item that was still tradable with other eligible players (raid loot and the likes) will of course also no longer be tradable.
    • Using an item for transmogrify makes it non-refundable.
    • Fishing Poles cannot be transmogrified. Frowney
    • Fishing Poles cannot be used to transmogrify. Frowney
    • Mailing an item strips its transmogrification.
    • Placing an item in Void Storage strips its transmogrification.
    • Vendoring an item strips its transmogrification.
    • The displayed enchant will be that of the currently equipped item.
    • There may be individual items that are excluded from being transmogrified on the basis that they were originally added to the game as absurdities. (examples: a weapon that looks like a fish, or a chest piece that is invisible…)
Differences with this list include: These difference were chosen based on player feedback.

    Update - 10.12.2020:
Certain weapons can be Transmogrified by certain classes, even if they cannot actually use them.

  • How much does it cost to transmogrify an item?
    • The amount it takes to transmogrify an item depends on the vendor price of the item you're using for transmogrification (the item in bags).
    • Tiers bonus text may show several transmogrified pieces as inactive. That is visual only - the tier bonus is still active and working as it should.
    • Your character will show with transmogrified gear in the loading screen even if your setting is off.
    • Rochet, for the entire transmogrification source.
    • Geckodev, for the optional command that made most of this viable.
    • The staff members who trusted me and supported giving this a go.
    • The community and a few certain names that served as inspiration and motivation through this entire process!
Thank you all for being part of our community!

I hope this one gift helps us keep flourishing and give us new things to do, on this last stage of progression at our server.
