You can't scuttle the southern wreck, no matter in what position you sit in.
The other two work just fine.

It works I ensure you of that but ye positioning can be a problem, it maybe also be worth pointing that there are actually 4 wrecked flying machines but credit is only given at 3 believe there is one right by the quest giver or if its not quest giver some other elite and it wont work with that one,

I tried many positions and none worked, around it, on the sides, right in the middle, at the tail, in front, etc.
Why don't you attempt to complete it and post a pic with the position you managed to complete this objective in?

And if this is doable as you say, why is this one in particular so hard to find the correct position to use the item in when you can do it with ease at the other two?

Hmm yes, there is a second crashed plane in the area and my Carbonite marked the wrong one on my map, tried the other one and worked just fine.

Don't trust Carbo always.There are a bunch of objectives that Carbo doesn't point out correctly.
