High Latency and DCs

#1 » Post by chickenbutt » 29 Aug 2011 21:50

Hi. Yesterday and today I have had high latency (from 700-8000 ms) which caused immense lag spikes that eventually turned into DCs. This is making the game un-playable for me since it forces me to alt + f4 the game and re-open it to be able to play again (followed by another spike + DC 2 min after). I'm not very bright when it comes to interwebz so any help would be very appreciated.

EDIT:
Just adding; as far as I know, nobody else is having this problem.

Hello,

usual stuff to troubleshoot latency is to reset the router and see if the problem persist and to make sure your drivers are up to date. Another great way to see if there may be something wrong with your connection is to run a traceroute to our server. Post your operating system and I shall provide you with the steps required, unless you can traceroute on your own ;)

Hey Tia, thanks for the reply. It's getting late and I got school in the morning so I'll reply the soonest I can. My OS is Mac OS X 10.4.11 (I have no idea what I just said was correct)

1. Open the Finder, choose Applications and then Utilities
2. Run the Terminal program
3. Type in 'traceroute login.truewow.org > ~/Desktop/tracert.txt' without the quotes and press Enter
4. Allow your computer 2-3 minutes to create the tracert.txt file before opening or moving the file

Open the file created and post here the results, they should look similar to http://www.truewow.org/forum/viewtopic. ... 118#p41118

Hmmm, the traceroute seems allright atm, try running it again when you are playing and experiencing the high latency. Try deleting the Cache/WTF/Interface folders (or renaming them to Cache1,... to prevent addons data loss) and run the client in default settings. If that does not help, restart both the PC and the router to see if that helps.

Try with AVG PC Tuneup 2011 or Pandora Recovery to bring something back.

Operating systems
AVG PC Tuneup is compatible with:
Operating System AVG PC Tuneup 2011
MS Windows XP
MS Windows XP Pro x64 Edition
MS Windows Vista
MS Windows Vista x64 Edition
MS Windows 7
MS Windows 7 x64 Edition

Software requirements:
OS: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista, or Windows 7
File system: NTFS, NTFS5, NTFS+EFS, FAT16, FAT32

Note: the software is not compatible with any version of Mac OS. We are not working on a Mac version. We are not against Mac and we are willing to reconsider... If you are willing to fund the entire project lifecycle.

It seems that you've got a very large dose of bad luck, Chicken. XD

Anyway, a couple of months ago, I remember having something that could help bring back what you deleted. I think its name was iobit toolbar, or something like that. In that toolbar, there's a program that can return deleted items. I'm not sure if it can do so with files and other stuff deleted with Shift+Delete, neither if it really works, since I've never tried it. Still, you might give it a try, yourself.

Indeed. I got most of my majorly important addons up and going now. Thank god I didn't lose my macros and keybinds. I'd probably ragequit for weeks.

A little late to reply but the program I use for bringing back deleted files etc is Spotmau. I actually had to use it recently and got some things back up and running :) The only downfall is you have to have separate partitions on your HDD to use the "undelete" tool. The "undelete" restores basically everything ever on your cpu even stuff deleted with shift-click I do believe. It is actually a decent program with ALOT of nice features to it.
Also use this program with some discretion >.>
Ever get stuck not knowing how to play free WoW? Well have no fear, just go here and download the game completely free (it's safe, even I use it). Once you do so, you will need to change your realmlist. You can do this by opening the WoW directory and navigating to (Data>EnUs>) open up realmlist.wtf with notepad and change it to

Code: Select all

Set Realmlist login.truewow.org
Congratulations!
Now you can run WoW.exe and login with your account name and password on our server

On a side-note, if you are having issues accessing TPB you can use an alternate proxie in this list.
