How to report bugs [READ FIRST!]

#1 » Post by Roel » 18 May 2010 18:38

So you have found a bug?
The way I see we have to deal with 3 kind of bugs, I will explain for each one what it is and how to report it.

1. Core bugs: This are the major bugs that have effect on the whole world. For example problems interacting with others (arena, battleground, trade, inspect...), missing scripts for events, all talent and ability bugs. Probably this are all bugs that don't apply to section 2 and 3 bugs (below).
2. Database bugs: This bugs that concern the world but apply mostly to a certain area. These include: missing NPCs, missing quests, missing items, missing gameobjects, wrong loots, wrong waypoints for NPCs and achievement bugs.
3. Character bugs: These are specific to your character and could be caused by a bug.

For issues 1 and 2 I would like you to report to the core and database projects because they are very experienced in fixing stuff and even more people outside this server can profit from it, for me it will also be easier to update if they fix other stuff. Please DON'T ever mention on what server you play, they are strict on this. You're a tester instead of a player.

Reporting:
1.
These should be reported to the Trinity Core bugtracker and DON'T post them on this forum nor on the Trinity Core forum. First create a Google account if you don't have it yet. On the page search if the bug is not already reported and click new issue on the top left. Try to write as detailed as possible or they won't be able to fix it. For the operating system you can write "Ubuntu 10.04 x64" and for the revision look at the right on the homepage.

2.
These are issues that could also be fixed by GMs (not moderators) if they have the time but it will still be good to report this to the Trinity Database forum. GMs could also post the fix to Trinity Database if they fixed it. First you should create an account on the forum, else you won't even be able to see most forum sections. Scroll down to the bug report section and choose the forum for your bug. First search if the bug is already reported, don't report it again if it already was. Read how you can properly report the bug in the BUG REPORTING GUIDELINES. For the revisions look at our homepage on the right and we use Linux instead of Windows. For patches/addons write AntiCheat1.

3.
These should be reported on this forum because your character will need to be fixed manually.

As you noticed the Trinity forums were down and are completely wiped. In addition they are changing stuff again. At this moment you should report ALL bugs at the google code issue tracker but they already moved the repo to git and they will remove the issuetracker to Trac.

Now ALL bugs should be reported to Trac, follow this url. After you create an account you can create a ticket just like you would create an issue at the google code tracker.
