Older Server Information, Announcements

Hello everyone:

We are aware of the current major bugs that are happening including but not limited to:

-Deleted accounts
-Lost items/gold
-Disbanded guilds
-Spawned ICC mobs in major cities and other numerous territories

At this time I'd suggest taking a quick break from the game. we will be trying to fix this asap. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Please note the most up-to-date information will be on this thread. When Roel is next online (FYI this is a typically time he is offline so nothing abnormal) we will deal with fixing everything.

Update: We are working on restoring data and access to server.

1. Server was rolled back to 23:39 23-06-2011. There may be future rollbacks to ensure all accounts are restored, but we are not sure yet.
2. I am not sure why access to the server is down, I assume everyone is getting disconnected like I am after choosing TrueWoW server. Thank you for your patience.
3. If you are in-game and a hacker is somehow spawning bosses/etc, do not kill them and we will deal with them as quickly as possible. Refer to #1 about rollbacks as well.
4. No passwords have been compromised, they just may have been changed or your account deleted. Working on both of those.

Thanks again for your patience, hopefully we can get all this annoying stuff behind us in the next few days and get back to TrueWoW.

I was very busy this week and also will be next week. I have some time this night if or else tomorrow. One more week and I will have lots of free time to solve problems...

I have put the server down for now, if you don't want to rollback then take a break from us for now. Each time the hacker screws things up we will rollback to 23:39 23-06-2011. Sorry I just had a few minutes to write this, the worst stuff happens at the worst time for me...

We will see how the server goes overnight while I go sleep peacefully. I have secured some things and enabled some logs but I don't think this will stop the hackers, just don't login if you don't want to rollback, it's only online for testing purposes.

Yes everyone, the server is once again down and all characters seem to be deleted. Just go outside and kick a ball or stare at a wall for the time being.

If you want to help, try to find vulnerabilities and PM them to me when you're sure they can be exploited. I think he is using SQL injections at the website. Later I might put the main website offline and only keep the forum online to see if he can still mess with the accounts.

Good news everyone! Everything seems to be getting somewhat back to normal. This isn't a guarantee that the situation is completely done, but it's a huge improvement. Few things to keep in mind right now:

1. Read Roel's post above.
2. The auto broadcast tool might be slightly malfunctioning, sorry for the annoyance. If it does malfunction, and you might know why, PM me.
3. As Roel posted before, the Armory and Truewowhead beta are offline.
4. If you notice things happening in-game that seem like a hacker, please PM me here on the forum. SS appreciated.

Anyway, welcome back and lets hope we're back to normal. No guarantees yet, but a great start so far.

The Autobroadcast spam happens when it needs to catch up with the time, it's like it went back in time and needs to do every single broadcast that got "skipped".
The real problem that happens before the spam is that everyone is DCed while the server remains online from what I noticed earlier today. This makes autobroadcast "confused". I did core updates in the meantime and we had some core problems which already got fixed yesterday. It could be the core but also the hacker with another exploit...

I am rolling back the database to the "clean" date again (23:39 23-06-2011). Reports are coming in of lost items and getting worse to lost characters and accounts.The hacker is clearly active and each time he does damage I will roll the database back. After this is solved I don't want anything to be lost because of the hacker.

If this turns out to stop the hacker then it will be only next week when I have time to fix the website problems, until then the server will be online unless the hacker finds another way to mess with your accounts.

Hehe, only half of the people normally online causing a server with no crash in the last 24 hours

Anyway report at the forums if you lost characters/accounts or I won't do rollbacks to recover them, no reports so far so it seems the website lock-down stopped the hacker.

Just an update in response to everyone asking about website ETA. We will not be putting the website back online until we have fully tested it and are confident in its security. The reason is, if we put the website online with vulnerabilities still existant, hacks could reoccur. The minor inconvenience of the website being offline is far better than more rollbacks/hacking/server downtime. A few things:

1. Account creation is currently unavailable. Sorry for the inconvenience, especially to those looking to join the server, but it's an unfortunate temporary side effect.

2. Quest completer is also currently unavailable. We are not able to help with this. (updated 7/5)

3. We do not have an ETA on website return. Tia and Roel are working on it, and their testing is unfortunately outside my area of expertise. Oh well, I'll just keep writing forum posts in response to y'all.

Some are probably waiting for me to announce this. I believe the server is safe to play now and we won't need more rollbacks. I just need to be 100% sure the security problems are fixed before the website is back or else you could expect another rollback due to the hacker.
