Warlock pets

So this bug https://truewow.org/bugs/view.php?id=742 has been around for a while now. If I'm not mistaken, some dev said they're unable to fix it a few years ago. Is this still the case? If not, is there anyone looking into it?

Would be very pleased if this actually gets fixed.

+1. This issue sucks, my voidwalker pulls agro and wrecks me all the time. It's a whole new skill learning to mash follow when he decides to go ham lol.

Have you tested it on the PTR? It is on a new core that might have it working.

The stay issue still exists, however ...

I was experiencing an issue where the pet would perpetually want to attack things and go places after combat. I haven't done a whole lot of testing but the "Attack" skill for the pet now stops flashing after combat, and the pet seems to return right to me, instead of sometimes running to some nearby (or far away :/) coordinates and coming back. These are my killer issues right now, and if they really are fixed (I'm a total noob at using the PTR, and I'm going to go to the areas I had issues with and test if I find the time and/or instructions) then playing as a Warlock would be a heluva lot easier.

Should be fixed in next update. It worked locally for me, as far I could tell.

It's a core function, so in the scenario that it bugs out other stuff, it'll be reverted. I highly doubt that, though. :-)

I'm excited so initial impressions:
  • Put runs off when in stay mode and combat begins - Fixed
  • Pet's attack icon keeps flashing after combat - Not Fixed (Strange, seemed fixed on PTR)
  • Pet goes ham (runs off) after combat sometimes - Untested
I'm going to spend an hour or few testing my pet (AKA questing) to nail down if the third issue is still present at all, might hop on the PTR for a bit too to see if the pet attack icon is still fixed on there. It really seemed to be working properly yesterday on PTR (it's surprisingly refreshing playing without a bugged icon constantly flashing at me) but it definitely is not rn on live.

If this topic gets closed (as it's about the top bug) I'll make another for the other bugs :).

All tests are with defensive / follow unless stated otherwise.
Fixed, tested:
  • VoidWalker ordered to stay before combat, and never enters. VoidWalker happily stays still.
  • VoidWalker ordered to stay before combat and also attack. VoidWalker returns to original position after combat.
Partially-Fixed, tested:
  • Consume Shadows cast before combat, wait for completion. VoidWalker appears to stay after combat (new combat doesn't trigger him to attack), orders put him back in follow mode.
  • Consume Shadows cast before combat, combat entered while Consume Shadows being cast, never ordered to attack. VoidWalker never attacks (should), but does follow (so he's behaving passively, instead of defensively).
Must be sleepy, the issues the bottom comment mention appear to be unchanged (but I'm unsure..). It needs more testing overall so crossing it out!

I'll be testing this one more thoroughly, the other one appears to be perfectly fixed. Thanks!


Update:

For bug 2174, it appears when Consume Shadows is cast, that becomes a stay location for the pet. After the next time the pet is ordered to do combat, the pet will return to where Consume Shadows is cast. I can't 100% confirm this means the pet will no longer go ham, but it appears to be the case.

When Consume Shadows is cast and you enter combat, the pet will follow and be passive. If the pet is ordered to attack, they will, and after the fight they will return to where Consume Shadows was cast. If the pet is ordered to follow at any point, the pet will follow and behave normally once again.

The appears to mean bug 742 was related, and now bug 2174 is at least more managable.
