Happy Holidays, Resolutions, Expectations and More!

#1 » Post by Nyeriah » 20 Dec 2015 06:43

Hello,

Another year has past and we've been through a plethora of changes. Considering all of them, we've finished this year in a quite positive stand point as in comparison to the previous ones, bringing forward several improvements to our server and the services we provide.

It's quite satisfying to know that we're all here together working towards the same goal, working towards making this place better for everyone and we have met our overall expectations. We acknowledge that there's still much to be done, but eventually with time things can only turn out for the best if we keep walking towards the right direction. This post is aimed at a lot of things, and I hope I'm able to transmit everything as clear as possible, giving an insight on where do we stand now and what are our expectations for the future.

Resolutions
[/b]
Fixed Update Release Schedule (Weekly Maintenances)
  • Early 2015, we've switched our development strategy from monthly/occasional updates to weekly updates. Eventually, that had good and bad effects. The good ones were that our core is now up to date with the latest releases and our developer's fixes are always applied as soon as possible, but the bad side is that the global emulator side-effects also hit us way sooner. However, gladly, our developers didn't let us down and had the resourcefulness to solve the issues in a reasonable tempo.

We intend to maintain this strategy throughout the next year to come, since as we see it, the benefits of having an always-up-to-date core eclipses out by far the casual issues that may arise and that we eventually end up dealing with either way. Additionally, we aim at addressing such issues by improving the tests performed prior releases and better identifying potential issues.
Development Roadmap
  • Since last month, we've started focusing more on our production - tracing goals and acting more energetically to solve the critical issues that we may still bear. Every month, we'll be selecting five high priority issues that we'll focus on solving until the next month. The nature of such issues is in general major roadblocks, abuses or missing features that make encounters harder or difficult gameplay.

This is still experimental, and we may increase the number of targeted issues depending on how it rolls out in the following months. The results so far were quite satisfying: November's roadmap was traced at 28th and we still managed to have it one hundred percent complete before the end of the month. December's roadmap also got completed last week and we'll be seeing the changes at next update, so we now can start working on January's goals without any hurry.
Warden and Cheating Prevention
  • With our own passive anti-cheat implementation and TrinityCore's Warden we've drastically reduced the number of cheating casualties which is very positive to our server. From the many fixes that came along, one that really outstands is that it's no longer possible to gold hack by any means at our servers. As for the other abuses, most of them get instantly banned once they use their tools and the ones that don't eventually end up getting caught by our Game Masters once they hit up enough flags to be noticed. We have taken a large step forward at this.
Character Transfer Expanded
  • If anyone ever wished to try out our server, there has never been a better moment to do so. Our expanded character transfer system now allows pretty much anyone to have a chance at checking us out. Whether it's a direct transfer, or they're receiving a compensation for their effort with no compromises, it's a hell'a good deal and helps keeping the flow of fresh players.
Full PvE Content Released
  • At 20th July, we brought to live our last instance to be released - Ruby Sanctum - and then reached the pinnacle of our PvE content, with every instance and raid available to our expansion released and in an operational state.

Even though we are aware that there are still issues to be addressed, our end-game dungeons are quite in a good shape compared to other servers which is a very good thing. We're constantly hearing feedback from the community at our Bugtracker about the issues players encounter and we'll be eventually addressing them as the time comes. With our new roadmap strategy it shouldn't take long until the most recurring issues are solved.

Expectations

While drawing the expectations for the next year to come, I have divided them in Short-Term expectations which are the ones expected to take place at some point during the first semester, and Long-Term expectations which will likely take place further down the road. This should not at any moment be understood as a promise, or taken as written in stone, it's merely what we can attempt to foresee for the future from the current stand point we're at.
Short-Term Expectations
Website Update
  • Most of the necessary things to be taken care of in order for the transition from the current, old software, to the new one were already done so at this point we only wait for the most appropriate time to perform the update. It should bring in some new features, but I don't have many details about it yet myself.
Website Design Changes
  • As an addition to the Website Update, once it's performed Etro's new theme will be set as default. If you like the current, simple TrueWoW Ice theme, worry not, you're safe - we've also taken all the necessary steps to make it fully compatible with the new software, so you can just switch themes to whichever one you like the best. More information about his work can be found here.

In the end, the community will decide which theme is the most appreciated and the winner will be the definitive official theme.
Community Feedback: Staff & Server Review Page
  • Aiming at making it easier for the community to voice out their opinion, we'll be bringing back our old Staff Reviews page, completely redesigned and enhanced.

In addition to reviewing staff members, players will also be able to cast a review on the server as a whole, which should help us identifying critical areas of the server that need our attention. The administration intends to be reading each and every review and replying to them as we are able :)
Monthly Voting Challenge Redesign
  • It is in our plans to redesign our Monthly Voting Challenge once more. In the concept so far, a new web page dedicated to the challenge would be brought forward as an extension of the vote page, there players would be able to browse through their voting records, check the rewards they're eligible to and at a later point claim them themselves once the challenge has been released by an administrator.

This should make the whole process a lot more clear and straight-forward, ending at once and for all with all the uncomfortable delays that tend to happen now and then.
Official Change Log Page
  • It's nothing new that we've been working on an official change log page for ourselves, but now we seem to be closer to it than ever. The page should include all of the previous update entries in a single place and should be easy to browse, with the developer's notes attached to the changes and everything else required to make every change understandable by all with nothing blurred.
Long-Term Expectations
Wintergrasp
  • With every instance released, it's about time we get a move on with our PvP content and release the last battleground too. We're aware that there's a ton of work to be done around it, but it's still something we'll need to address at some point, and it'll likely be addressed at some point by next year.

Bugtracker Redesign
  • It's in my plans to redesign the bugtracker, creating an instance of it for our own, with enhanced features and a better design. Hopefully I'll be able to pull it through and implement features that encourage contribution. It'll be a hell load of work, but it'll probably pay off in time.
Support Center/Knowledge Database
  • Supplementing the already functional in-game issue solving engine, it's in the plan to design a webpage that'll serve as our Knowledge Database, or Support Center, which will attempt to automatically solve the user's issues as they input it. This should reduce our response time drastically and vastly reduce the stress put on our users.

It's to be clear that not at any moment it's in our plans to drop our current General Support sections or any of the current applicable procedures, we'll be just merely taking a step forward at improving our Costumer Support efficiency.
Quality Analysis Campaign 2015

  • The first of many - we'll be hosting our first Quality Analysis Campaign within the next three weeks. The objective of the QA campaign is to identify issues and reallocate our resources to the areas that need it most, evaluating our progress and how much we have improved in the previous year. Most of the issues highlighted by the QA Campaign should be addressed during the first semester of 2016.

To take part in the campaign, go to the Quality Analysis Campaign page and fill out our form. All that is required is that the participants must have at least 1 account registered as early as December 2014. Only one review per player will be accepted.

By the end of the campaign, those who answer to the questions coherently will be eligible to the unique [Orange Murloc Pet] raffle that I'll be performing at some point after the campaign is over and the results are computed.
Holiday's Sale!

  • Following our tradition, we'll also be hosting our Holiday Shop Sale from 24th December to 7th January. Every item and service in our reward shop will be 20% off their original price (faction change not included). If you wish to spend these well earned vote points there's no time like the present! :)

THANK YOU!
Thank y'all for being with us this year and we hope you've had a good time at our server. The TrueWoW Staff wishes you all happy holidays and all of the best in the next year to come. Regards and thank you once again!

What a great writeup, Nye. Thanks for that, and thanks for everything (to all the developers and staff), for making this a truly great server close to what retail WotLK was, and for the constant improvements that just bring it closer and closer to a Blizzclone server.

I think it would be for the best if questions of such nature went to the Development Q&A thread instead http://www.truewow.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=16347
