Crit (Fury PvE)

#1 » Post by Kindzadza » 05 Sep 2014 03:56

So I was reading this:
Crit Cap

The crit cap is mostly based around the hit table, and the possible occurances on it, and mainly effects your white attacks (rage generating hits - melee damage)

24% = glance - reduced damage attack that only occurs on your white attacks, this is a fixed value and it cannot be changed with the addition of hitrating/expertise/crit etc. You will not get glancing blows on mobs that are lower level than yourself, it is tied into the weapon skill of your character in relation to the level of the mob/boss you are attacking.

Chance to miss - your hit rating effects this. You have a 27% base chance to miss on your white melee attacks vs lvl83 boss mob. Assuming you have the 8% hit rating soft (special attacks) cap, you have a 19% chance to miss on your white attacks, and therefor you cannot crit for that 19% of attacks either. By increasing your hit rating, you increase your crit cap.

Chance to be dodged - your expertise effects this. Base chance to be dodged is 6.5% vs lvl83 boss mob, and just like hit rating, that needs to removed or those attacks cannot crit. With 26 expertise / 213 expertise rating, you remove that 6.5% chance to dodge, thus increasing your crit cap. It is assumed that you will always attack from behind, so chance to be parried is not taken into consideration, but would also effect the crit cap.

So to assume the crit cap of a lvl80 warrior, vs a lvl83 boss mob, with 8% hit rating, 6.5% expertise your crit cap would be.

100% - 24 % Glancing blows
76% - 19% chance to miss
57% - Crit cap.

Crit immunity - lvl83 Bosses have a 4.8% crit immunity, regardless of your "tooltip crit", 4.8% of these crits would still be converted into hits. So your actual chance to crit at the crit cap in this case is...

52.2%
First, how accurate this is? I often hear different versions for how much crit you should aim for and I never figured this stat out. Some people say as high as possible, somewhere I read you need like 55% for ICC and even for less crit aim on some forums.

Secondly, I was wondering as well what would be the best option for trinket and which stat to boost it with. Is it DBW(HC) + WFS(HC) the best choice? Or maybe DBW(HC) + STS(N) or WFS(HC)+STS(N) ? Need someone who understands this to enligthen me on this too.

I know many people here enjoy warriors and their marvelous stats calucations.

That article is spot on.

DBW HC and STS (regardless of N or HC) manage to beat out DBW HC + WFS HC in terms of stats.
Anything which brings you closer to the ArP hard cap (passively) and allows you to free up gems / enchants for stats such strength / hit / crit / expertise is a step in the right direction.

That article is spot on, well except for the 4.8% crit "Immunity".

For a whole lot more detailed info on this look here.

As to your 2nd question I agree with Regent, you'll be better off using (DBW HC + STS N/HC) over (DBW HC + WFS HC/DC HC) or even (STS N/HC + WFS HC/ DC HC) due to the fact that it will let you get closer to passively capping arp before you start to gem it & as such have the freedom to gem other stats :).

P.S: I know the articles I linked to are for rogues, but the mechanic is the same for all classes concerned with this particular cap, be they Ferals, Rogues, Warriors or Enhance Shammies.

P.P.S: Kindz IF you are still confused about this talk to Disc, he will give you an explaination that would put an encyclopedia to shame :D.

On a side note, can anyone confirm if the level 83 ~4.8% Crit Suppression is working?

I've always wondered about Crit for warriors to be honest, because of Heroic Strike. I don't have a warrior so please pardon my ignorance...

Afaik HS overwrites or takes the place of white hits. That essentially makes it a spell that cannot be, um, 'glanced' yes? Would this increase the value of Crit for warriors as compared to other Mdps classes, who don't have any spells to overwrite their white hits with? I'm just thinking that more HS Crit = more rage (from glyph) = less white hits (cos they become HS) = less glancing blows?? Or is rage never a problem?

If we're only talking HS + white hits of course, without factoring in the benefit that Crit gives other spells.

I don't know if Rage is a problem, but this is correct.

HS only converts main hand strikes into a special, the offhand attacks are always white hits.

Yes its working, I got normal hits while having 100% crit on my survival hunter.

I am not sure Blackluster.. Myself at the moment without any buff (just Rampage from talents) have around 6,7k attack power, 55% crit and having the hit and expertise soft capped - 8,5% and 26/29 (oh mace - human) respectively. My point is that I don't want to replace any gem or item which would decrease the strenght in order to increase the cit. Remember Deep Wounds deals damage based on str.

If your expertise, hit rating, armor penetration aren't capped yet - or if you have some crit rating gems, feel free to make the necessary conversions.
If you're already capped on the above-mentioned + have no crit gems, just stay as you are.
If you really want to make more changes, just swap some items that grant you more ap at the cost of crit (while maintaining your stat caps).
Bottom line: You don't have to go out of your way to make the changes if you're already gear capped (correctly) from end-game raids.

I am capped already, I just gemmed str crit in yellows, so was curious if I have too much atm, and maybe convert some str crit to pure str or str haste.... apparently haste wars are the new pink

You shoulnd't gem haste imo. Use the leather hands from Rortface and maybe Sindragosa's neck. I have to stick with the BQ neck to have the expertise capped. Haste is the last stat we should care about. :D

My advice to both of you, grab Landsoul's spreadsheet & sim out your gear instead of just eyeballing it :D.

well once you get RS gear, and Lk sword, your itemization can change a bit
for example you will be using RS neck crit arp
rs plate boots hit crit
rs leather bracers haste crit
cape of choice gunship/toc
and ofc still rotface gloves

but someone told me to drop the set legs and go for haste crit pants in icc, and gem hit for faster auto attacks, more heroic strikes, etc.... but idk
