Nooby Warlock question.

Hi,

A friend and I recently decided to dip out toes into the world of private servers and as we both had fond memories of WOTLK ended up here, been loving it so far and decided to do a retail transfer with my Warlock, something I never play much of in retail but always wanted to give more of a go back in the Wrath days.

So I've gotten my retail transfer through, bought a few bits of gear with emblems so got a mix of emblem epics and the blues I was started with, bought all my spells and what not and after reading a raft of old guides been hitting the training dummy and tried a normal 5man.

Most things have been going fine as far as I can tell but one thing I'm having serious problems with is mana. Is this normal?
Obviously warlocks have life tap for mana management but it seems as though I'm still burning through way too much mana way to quickly.

I went demonology because that was always my favourite back in the day so is it just a feature of the spec? Might it be my gear? Not a big enough mana pool or not enough spirit perhaps? Or do I just need to life tap every few spells and hope my healer doesn't wish me dead? Am I just being an idiot and missing something really obvious? :P

Any help or insight on the matter would be greatly appreciated, don't really wanna dive into anything and end up a burden on my party!

EDIT: I feel like MP5 would probably be overkill, but its been so longer since I've played anything but retail I may be wildly wrong here.

Mana is problematic on Warlock and Life Tap is there to fix it.
As for stats forget MP5 and go standard caster DPS stats: SP, Haste, Crit and forget MP5 and spirit (no matter spirit is converted to SP via Fel Armor).

Thanks. I thought that may be the case I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being dense and missing something stupid or doing something wrong.

I haven't played a warlock at 80, but most warlocks on Primal incorporate the talents Improved Felhunter and Dark Pact in their spec for endless mana from your pet. You could certainly take an Affliction spec for those. Also, in the Destruction tree, there is a talent, Improved Soul Leach, which gives a 15 second mana regen buff (that scales with your intelligence) to you and your party randomly after 30% of your Shadowbolts, Incinerates, and Conflagrates.

Same Buff is gained from Retri Paladins, Hunters, Frost Mages so its kinda wasted talent since first two mentioned spam it all the time.

Welcome to the server! Hope you enjoy it here. Demo lock is a great choice. You'll be very wanted in raids for the huge spellpower buff you bring.

About Destruction/replenishment (@ Fitz/fastor):

Only survival hunters bring replenishment in WotLK. Frost mages are nonexistent in PvE. Destruction is a weak PvE spec aside from replenishment, but that buff is covered by ret paladins and shadow priests (when the priests are instructed to use mind blast in their rotation, which is a slight DPS loss)
