Re: Demonology warlock imp or felguard
Sadly the warlock module in Rawr is quite inaccurate with regards to pets, the following info is shown in rawr options > info tab when warlock module is running, "The Warlock model you are using is still under development. It has known problems, and some important features are not yet implemented (for example, pet dps is unverified).".testeromir wrote:Rawr showed me that imp does around 2,4 k dps while Felguard does 1,2 k.
I'd suggest using Simcraft instead of Rawr, for warlocks.

Yea Relina, I know about that warning and I don't trust rawr completely, that's why I decided to make this thread.

Re: Demonology warlock imp or felguard
I'll try to get my some ingame numbers this week on my lock to compare the 2 pets, provided its need for the raid comp & I'm in the mood for messing with its offspec .
Re: Demonology warlock imp or felguard
That'd be great, but you will need many tries to reduce global RNG effects, so it will actually take a while to come up with real numbers.
I'm saying that because the difference between both minions won't be something huge.

Re: Demonology warlock imp or felguard
I copied skuzi's warlock's spec. Didn't really feel any issues from there on, didn't even bother reading the spec.
I welcome all haters now ;D
Nah I'm kidding, I read it and I enjoy having an Imp. Additionally I believe that Soul Fire is also a fire spell which you forgot to mention in the few first posts Myaoming. So if that is fire spell it would also be effected, not only what you stated here:

But correct me if I'm wrong, I am not really a lockmaster (ironic my lvl 22 horde warlock is called that ;D).which is nothing else but Immolate and your occasional Incinerates on Molten Core before 35%

I'd say that trying is the best one can do in order to higher themselves from the people crying and only complaining. Whilst you try, it doesn't mean it is always going to be the most successful result but I'd like to think that it is still a better choice than standing idle.

I said before 35%, Decimation (Soulfire phase) starts after 35% xD
I was just pointing out that the 5% extra fire Crit is useless until 35%.

Re: Demonology warlock imp or felguard
SimCraft reports a 550 DPS loss (660 with the 20% ICC buff) by switching from Felguard to imp for my own warlock (far from BiS though - 5.7k GS, with 4pc T10).
Talent build for my Felguard version is http://www.truewow.org/talent-calculato ... oE00Vb:oTn (glyph combinations are optimal as reported by SimCraft, in my gear)
Talent build for Imp version is http://www.truewow.org/talent-calculato ... oE0MVb:bTn (glyph combinations optimal for using imp, as reported by SimCraft, in my gear)
The felguard one sims around 10675 DPS, while the imp version sims at 10130 DPS. I believe the imp scales better with gear, so the difference might become smaller at close-to-BiS gear. If only there was a way to take more imp talents, that'd help with the imp's scaling too, but I fiddled around with talents and couldn't really find any talents to yield a better DPS in my current gear.

Re: Demonology warlock imp or felguard
I think while rolling with imp you also add a dps nerfing factor: distance. This can change at any time, depending on your position affecting dps I would say.
"I write about the power of trying, because I want to be okay with failing. I write about generosity because I battle selfishness. I write about joy because I know sorrow. I write about faith because I almost lost mine, and I know what it is to be broken and in need of redemption. I write about gratitude because I am thankful - for all of it."
Re: Demonology warlock imp or felguard
So I ran simcraft on my warlock 2day & got the following results:
Satansoul: 11605dps
Pet - Felguard: 2150dps
Satansoul: 10892dps
Pet - Imp: 1550dps
The dps difference between the 2 specs with regards to only the warlock is 713dps in favor of the Felguard spec.
The dps difference between the 2 pets is 600dps in favor of the Felguard.
This of course assumes that all mechanics are blizzlike, but I wonder how closely this is reflected on TW where some aspects are not fully blizzlike.
But ignoring the dmg done by pets for the moment, we can see that using a Felguard results in higher dmg done by the warlock.
So unless the difference in dmg done by pets on TW is in favor of the Imp by a large enough margin to make up for the loss in dmg done by the warlock (this needs in-game testing though), I'd suggest we stick to using the Felguard as demo locks & leave the Imp to Deep Destro or Hybrid locks.
And there is also another bonus to using the Felguard which we are overlooking, the -5% dmg taken, this added survivability might be the difference between a live lock or a dead lock.

Re: Demonology warlock imp or felguard
The difference would be even greater if we had 30% ICC buff, by the way. Needless to say maybe xD
Thanks for the sims guys, good to see some numbers. I would've done tests myself, but I never really bothered with SimCraft.

Re: Demonology warlock imp or felguard
Meh imp still has like 20% (tested in raid) chance to miss which makes the glyph useless. 5% damage done while using felguard sounds like a better option at least until they fix the hit rating thing...
