Demonology warlock imp or felguard

#1 » Post by testeromir » 10 Mar 2015 11:48

Hello people,
Recently glyph of felguard has been fixed, but due to some TC bugs with pet stats scaling I am in dilema which pet to use for demonology warlock endgame raiding. I am using imp atm as it seems to bring more dps. Any inputs about this?
If anyone has some certain answers tested in endgame raiding I would like him to share it here please.
Thanks in advance.

I had the same dilema yesteday, not knowing what to pick between them and I saw people saying the dps will be lower with imp. But http://wotlk.openwow.com/spell=18696 and http://wotlk.openwow.com/spell=18127 looks so nice that I'd like imp more...

Yea, those talents are definitely delicious :). I've done tests on mobs with both imp and felguard with two different demo specs (one taking those talents u mentioned, other taking felguard buffing talents), and on mobs imp is clear winner, firebolts critting up to 3k, while felguard hits crit up to 1,5 k. But since I am not familiar with melee classes in general, and full raid buffs for melee classes in general I just thought that maybe full raid buffed + on some encounters with lot AoE Felguard may be better. So if anyone can confirm this I would change for felguard.

Until then imp will be.

Take a look at your Master Demonologist talent. Felguard is boosting all your damage done by 5%, while Imp just cares about your Fire damage which is nothing else but Immolate and your occasional Incinerates on Molten Core before 35%. Your Shadowbolt is always 2nd on Recount so you gotta care about buffing it.
On a side note, Imp gives you slightly less SP from Demonic Knowledge than your Felguard.

One thing you can consider doing is switching from Felguard to Imp at the 35% phase if you're specced 2/2 Master Summoner, to increase the Crit chance of your Soulfires. It is totally worth on it on long 35% phases, which means on almost all bosses except DBS and Lady maybe.

Well I know what master demonologist talent is :D. But question is next does that 5% on SB overweight dps loss from using Felguard?

If your Shadowbolts Crit 20k, the 5% bonus damage is a 1k damage increase per hit, but your Shadowbolts should crit for more with endgame gear. I personally managed a 28k Crit on dummy with full endgame gear and SP procs. It also boosts your Corruption and your Curses whether it's Doom or Agony, so I'd say it does compensate the loss :)

Hm, I should test it, it makes sense since SB scales heavily with sp, and with engame gear it is really beefed up. But we need to prove it in raids.

I've done some tests on rawr. Best sped to be used in terms of personal dps seems to be http://www.truewow.org/talent-calculato ... oE0MVb:qbT.

It could be if pets weren't bugged. As I recall, Felguard should be doing 2k DPS talented and glyphed on a working core. Not sure about Imp.

Rawr showed me that imp does around 2,4 k dps while Felguard does 1,2 k.

Interesting choice of glyphs on that link Testeromir but do you really need that 10% immolate when you can have faster corruption with more incinerate procs? Imp lately got super buffed, does almost 6k crits in icc (unglyphed) but still has messed up hit rating so i don't think it's worth glyphing imp atm. All things considered i would use imp rather than felguard.

Dunno, thing with quick decay glyph is that its double edged choice. While it does get you faster molten cores, corruption wears off pretty fast and you need to refresh it quite often. It wastes you couple of GCD's per fight, also you need to refresh it in execution phase wasting you a few soul fire casts. I tried a lot of glyph combinations, and this one that I linked showed to have highest dps. Now yes, I tried with decay glyph instead of imp, and difference is like -200 dps.

I've never actually considered glyphing that little guy, might give it a try.
