Few Questions

#1 » Post by assassin10 » 31 May 2015 04:13

1) Does 100 Hit rating boost hit chance by the same percentage that 100 Crit rating boosts crit chance?
2) A long time ago I read something along the lines of "If you had a 50% chance to hit and a 50% chance to crit then half your spells would miss, half would crit, and none would hit for regular damage". Is this true?

1) No 100 hit rating is ~%3 increase chance to hit, 100 crit rating would be little over %2 crit
old wow wiki for hit http://wowwiki.wikia.com/Hit?oldid=2321747 and for crit http://wowwiki.wikia.com/Critical_strike?oldid=2322564
2) Nope, if you had 50% to miss it would be 25% hit 25% crit 50% miss. if you had 50% chance to hit of character pane you would be very over cap and would be 50% hit and 50% crit.

This isn't true, if you had 50% chance to miss and 50% chance to crit (and assuming 0% chance to dodge/parry/glancing/block etc) then you would miss 50% of your attacks and the other 50% of them would crit due to the way the attacking table works, normal hits are at the very bottom. It's as the OP says.

If you had 50% on character pane that would be additional hit chance, not chance to hit a target.

lol its simple maths

50 chance to miss: 1/2
50 chance to crit: 1/2

chance to not miss AND crit: 1/2 × 1/2 = 1/4

do you even derative bro

If you had 50% chance to hit something and 50% crit chance, half your attacks would miss and half would land. Of those that landed, half would be criticals and half normal hits.

Both mechanics do not take place at the same equation.

You can try this yourself at PTR with the help of certain auras

This is bugged then, the correct behavior (up to 3.3.5a at least, don't know about cata) should follow a single dice roll, as explained here:

Edit: Spells do seem to use a several dice rolls system, which seems to be what the OP was asking about.

Vaen is right. Reminds me of Glancing Blows in PvE: 8% hit + 26 Expertise + 76% crit ---> ~76% crit, ~24% Glancing Blows, 0% normal hit.

Logically you guys are right, but things don't work like that because Blizzard.

The reason Blizz did it that way is to make rolling crit/hit (avoidance works similarly) really efficient in its implementation, but it's a bit of a strange mechanic...

So the answer to question 2 is... yes?

There seems to be some confusion about what you where asking.
Spells No.
Melee attacks Yes.
