[PW] Druid Tanking
Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
Yeah.. so on this wotlk/tbc edition, druids don't need any defence what so ever? We can remain at 350?
Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
you do not need ANY defense rating on gear. the talent "survival of the fittest" makes you completely crit immune.
yes, you made some wrong gear choices. that doesn't explain why you are struggling with aggro, but better itemlvl is usually also more aggro, because most leather items have some agility (which gives you crit atleast) and some AP. there are a few "old tbc stats feral items" available in heroics that are good for pre raid gear. bracers, belt, boots ets. with str, agi, stamina. those might solve a few of your problems.
but with the talents i mentioned, threat should be better. you should put the following abilities in a macro:
Mangle (Bear), Lacerate, Swipe and Feral Charge (Bear).
like this:
#showtooltip
/use Mangle (Bear)
/use !Maul
/startattack
reason for this is, Maul and Autoattack are a big part of your threat and like this you make sure that you never forget Maul.
Bind these Macros to your "main keys" or buttons along with Fearie Fire (Feral). Fearie Fire costs no rage and generates a big amount of threat.
When you fight bosses, keep Faerie Fire on CD, same with Mangle. Keep Demoralizing Roar up, keep 5 stacks of Lacerate up. If everything is on CD and 5 stacks of Lacerate are up, your can Maul or Swipe in between.
When you fight trash grps, use your Swipe Macro, try to tab through mobs with Faerie Fire and Mangle.
Druid Tanks can struggle in some heroics with rage (and might therefore be struggling with threat also). That happens mostly in herocis with a lot of caster/ranged mobs or mobs that do not hit very hard.
Like Shattered Halls, Botanica, Mana Tombs etc. are easy to tank. Shadowlabs, Bloodfurnace. Sethek Halls are a pain.

Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
I have altered my gear somewhat based on this. Taken some of my DPS gear into an experimental Tanking set. And i did notice a difference in Attack Power and in Dodge and in pure armor too.
So, i'm curious to see how i'd stack up in a instance. Might try one later tonight or tomorrow.
Edit: Forgot to say thank you for your help! Without it, I would still try to chase that damn Adamantite Figureine in Shadow Labyrinth.

Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
In vanilla some items had so much strength you had to consider using them for tanking one or two physical dd targets.

EDIT;
You dont know how important that debuff is, and it costs you nothing to have it.

Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
Infected wounds with Demo roar, demo shout or ideally vindication you can be reducing a mainly physical damage fight by a really large amount.
So it is very much worth taking if you don't have a warrior dps that will keep tclap up

In Vanilla, there was no savage defense, was implemented in wotlk, therefore they removed armor bonus for all items
Yes i know how important that debuff is, but in a raid, you have warriors that make the same debuff. thats why i wrote, a character that raids does not need it.
If you mostly do heroics or 10m raids with your feral druid, then infected wounds should be taken ofc.

Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
I can think of several instances where you would not have a prot warrior on your target, in curent content. In SSC, not having it could be awfully tough on your healers on the Fathom Lord event. Not every fight is Gruul.
Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
you do not need a prot warrior for that, every warrior can do that and its not really a dps loss. also, on a fight like fathomlord, you should maybe not put a feral druid on the mob that dies last. make sense for various reasons.Fitzpatrick wrote: ↑07 Oct 2017 23:19I can think of several instances where you would not have a prot warrior on your target, in curent content. Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
As I'm not currently raiding, and only doing heroics...

Perhaps this build would work, i gain some extra % damage through some points in Naturalist, but also keep Master Shapeshifter for those 4% there, and spend one point in "Infected Wounds".
Thoughts?

The title of this thread has [PW] in it, I was talking about Vanilla on this server.
Not every dps warrior has 3 points in improved TC

Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
You spend 5 talent points to gain 2.3% extra damage trough Master/Natural Shapeshifter.
Improved Mangle, or King of the Jungle would be a better choice.

Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
I was unsure if we could use King of the jungle? Thought that was restricted in game.
Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
Btw, how do you mean 2,3% extra in master? It says 4%?

Re: [PW] Druid Tanking
You cant use last 2 rows of talent trees, everything else is open.
8% from Naturalist, and 4% from Shapeshifter is (1.08 x 1.04) 12.32% extra damage, while Naturalist 5/5 would give you 10% for 4 less talent points.
