Moonkin PvE Basic Guide

#1 » Post by Matsy » 15 Jan 2011 21:40

Since we are getting some more moonkins joining the server, i'd thought i'd post this basic guide for them to read and develop there skills. Also, ive seen a few moonkins who dont know how to play correctly.

Moonkin's arn't a hard class to play, they are very easy to play.

Rotation

The rotation of moonkins is as thus:

1. Insect swarm, Moonfire and Faerie Fire
2. Wrath spam until eclipse
3. Refresh dots if dot's below 8 seconds each (this depends on how long it takes you to proc eclipse)
4. Starfire spam until eclipse is over
5. Refresh dots
6. Starfire spam until eclipse
7. Refresh dots if dot's below 8 seconds each (this depends on how long it takes you to proc eclipse)
4. Wrath spam until eclipse is over

Rince repeat.
Remember to cast your trents, starfall and trinket inbetween (best to cast at beginnining of fight, if its a short fight, or keep until bloodlust or heroism is used)

Also remember to use your battle res if someone dies ^^

Stats

Stat priority is:

Hit (until capped) > Haste (until 401) > Spellpower > crit > Haste (above 400) > intellect > spirit

The hit cap is : 263 or 237 with a draenai
Haste will soft cap at 401 with wraith of air totem or 585 without

Once you reach the hit cap, you should start to get 401 haste asap.
Once you reach that amount of haste do not stack haste as a primary stat anymore, consentrate on SP and crit.
You can still look for haste its not a bad stat to have above 400, it lowers your cast time afterall :) Dont go below 401 and dont give up other stats for it.

Talents

This is the talent build which i think is the best to use in any situation.
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?druid#Z ... 8OH-,12213

Glyphs

Major:

Glyph of Starfire
Glyph of Starfall
Glyph of Moonfire

Minors:

Glyph of the Wild
Glyph of Unburdened Rebirth
Optional : glyth of thorns/aqua form

Gems

Meta : Chaotic Skyflare diamond (requires 2 blue gems)
Blue gems: Purified Dreadstone (12 sp & 10 spirit)
Red gem: Runed Cardinal Ruby (23 sp)
Yellow gems: (12 sp & 10 haste), forgot the name :?

Theres no need to use any other gems other than these.

Professions

Lots of professions are useful for moonkins, here is a list of what you could take.

Jewlcrafting (provide your own gems + three JC only gems)
Alchemy (provide your own pots and flasks)
Enchanting (Enchant your own gear and enchant your rings with SP)

You can take any combo of professions but i think these are the best.
If you take Jewlcrafting you may want to take mining to get the mat's you need.
If you take alchemy you may want to take herb to get the herbs you need.

Addons

Here are some addons, i would suggest to other moonkins.

Omen Threat Meter (to show your threat in raids so you dont over agroo)
Deadly boss mods
Recount (to show damage done)
Squawkandaww (to show dot and eclipse cooldowns and duration)

Well i hope you have enjoyed this guide and may of learned something.
Now go forth and BOOM BOOM BOOM!

;)

I said haste until 401 And haste above 400 ^^

In other words...when your haste is under 401, stack haste till you get it.
When your over 400 haste spellpower & crit is superior.

I cant give tips about pvp, i'm a noob in that.

U're such a liar, u once toped dmg done in AB, and u continued to do that XD

And tks, I was starting to think I was wrong to spam Wrath till Eclipse, but why after the First eclipse u keep spamming Starfire till the "other eclipse" ? shouldn't After the eclipse of the moon (starfire one I believe) shouldn't u get back on Wrath spam till it crits again?

Not hard to do alot of damage in BG, starfall is epic in groups ;d

After the first eclipse is over (when you spam starfire) you need to keep spamming starfire to get the next eclipse to proc, in which you spam wrath, you just go backwards and foward's.

An alternative rotation that i use:

faerie fire - moonfire - starfall - spam starfire till eclipse - insect swarm - spam wrath
after u start with wrath make sure to keep moonfire up all time +/- insect swarm
try to keep starfall on cd, but in sync with starfire spam

Are you sure? I don't think it's a good idea to cast Insect Swarm under Eclipse, as you'll end up casting 1 less Wrath under the effect, which is a DPS loss.
It's totally fine if Insect Swarm drops on Eclipse, so in my opinion, just cast it before or when you go out of it.

I totaly agree, waisting 1gcd for moonfire or inset swarm is not worth in eclipses, because wrath doing 20-25k starfire 30-40k, if u want to refresh it do it when u are like 1-2s before end of eclipse and you know your eclipse will end before u cast that spell, or if u are moving or you don't have eclipse on. And i think improver insect swarm talent is still not working, so only good thing u have from moonfire/insect swarm is crit buff from Idol.

Bad thing about this rotation is that most of fights people use hero/bl at start of fight and your wrath is already under 1sec gcd, but with lunar eclipse u will have 1,5sec starfire and u will prolly have dfo/pnl proc so you will have around 35k starfire crits that 1st eclipse.
