Laptop suggestion.
Re: Laptop suggestion.
What do you intend to use the laptop for outside your home? I don't think you'll be playing games at the
University. Is the modeling software a hobby or something you would work with outside home? I would go insane if I had to use PhotoShop on a 15'6 monitor and I think the model software would feel the same.
Unless your current laptop cannot fulfill your outside home need, I would recommend a desktop computer as it costs less and can be tailored to your needs. It is as well simpler to upgrade when the time comes.

Re: Laptop suggestion.
If I were you (and I was at one point at the end of last year, but I decided to buy a desktop PC instead), I would look at some of the higher-end desktop replacement (they're called that for a reason) laptops that are larger sized and usually have better cooling solutions than regular thin laptops.
Something in the range of this GL752 http://www.notebook.de/128gb-ssd-asus-g ... 64?atyp=nb (950 euros - 17,3'' FHD, i7 6700HQ, GTX 960M 4GB, 8GB DDR4, 128GB m.2 SSD + 1TB HDD, illuminated full-size keyboard), or this MSI GT72-6QD81FD http://www.notebook.de/msi-gaming-gt72-g-3380?atyp=nb (i7 6700HQ, 17,3'' FHD, GTX 970M, 8GB DDR4, 1TB HDD, RGB-illuminated full-size keyboard, Killer Ethernet/Wifi, on some sites, such as this one, comes with MSI gear pack included).
First one has an SSD, but weaker GPU, the other one is a bit over the designated price point, but I think well worth the extra 200 euros (GTX 970M>>GTX960M). You can always upgrade your storage, since there are plenty upgrade slots on both laptops. Both are renowned gaming laptop brands with good customer support, and has far superior cooling and lightning. Did I mention you can control CPU and GPU fan speed on the MSI (full silent mode for university usage or full-blown blow-out mode for extreme gaming - the kind that runs almost any game at 60 fps at 1080p)?
Also, you should totally check out this site from which I linked the laptops since they even let you pay it in up to 72 installments!
And finally, when you stick that beastly looking MSI out on the university library table, it's gonna act like chick magnet!

Re: Laptop suggestion.
Hey guys, today I received my Lenovo Y700.
Here are the specs:
CPU: i7 6700HQ
Video: GTX 960M
RAM: 8GB DDR4
HDD: 256 SSD Samsung
Two levels illuminated keyboard, external DVD drive, Lenovo Gaming Y Precision Mouse (gift).
I have to admit, I don't regret buying this over an Asus with same specs. The finish is nice, metallic covers, nice screen design and most important: JBL speakers + beneath subwofer which are designed to reflect the sound in front of the laptop.
Will come back later with some benchmark feedback.

Re: Laptop suggestion.
Some feedback about temperature testing (help from Boxis):
Prime95(cpu) and Furmark(gpu) stress test running in same time, temperature results: http://prnt.sc/cuo03q
2 seconds after turning off the stress softwares, the temperatures dropped to 50 Celsius.
I think this laptop has a optimized cooling system.

Re: Laptop suggestion.
Maybe you can make it to gold now that you've got a new laptop. Congrats!
Re: Laptop suggestion.
By which logic you people decided it is wise to do Overheating benchmarks on Lap top?

Re: Laptop suggestion.
Prime95 small fft is commonly used with the combination of furmark for testing the cooling capabilities of gaming laptops and desktops in general.Fastor wrote:By which logic you people decided it is wise to do Overheating benchmarks on Lap top?
You can instantly send your laptop for RMA if it overheats during this test.
Justice got really great temps which are superior to most 2014-2016 Asus/Msi gaming laptops.
Re: Laptop suggestion.
Its Lap Top, its bound to overheat. Consider yourself lucky if it does not.
Re: Laptop suggestion.
Perhaps the laptops you are using, Fastor, are just junk.

Re: Laptop suggestion.
Gaming laptops having overheating issues isn't an norm now. It may have been a problem from 2 years ago or more, but modern cards automatically throttle themselves as soon as they reach the peak of safe running temps. You can actually see in benchmarks that when you push too hard, the performance starts dipping.

Re: Laptop suggestion.
True, but there are laptops with good cooling solutions that don't overheat even on longer benchmark tests, as long as they're properly maintained and regularly cleaned.
Do you honestly believe someone would put 2 GTX 1080s in a laptop, and more importantly, that someone would pay a serious premium, if they are only going to work at 50% of their optimum?
Laptop cooling solutions have gone a long way in the last 3-4 years, you just won't find them on laptops until you've passed the magical 1500$ mark. And, since vast majority of ppl have laptops cheaper than 1500$ (not counting models of laptops that are expensive for other reasons - 4k display/touch screen or brand name *cough* apple), we don't even realise laptops can maintain solid temperatures, if built well and solid materials (more/bigger heat pipes, directional air flow).
Personally, when I chose my laptop, I avoided those thin-looking ones such as Lenovo. I like my laptop big, bulky and with plenty more air flow. A bit more difficult to carry around, but it's not like I'm running marathons with it.
