KEL'THUZAD ABILITY BREAKDOWN
BRIEFING
  • - Kel'thuzad is the supreme master of Naxxramas, the most trusted servant of the Lich King and the pinnacle of the vanilla progression. Using a mix of deadly frost magic and shadowy necromantic power, Kel'Thuzad unleashes devastating spells against those who dare trespass into his domain. Specially those who mess with his cat.

Key Points:


Phase 1
  • - Skeletons need to die before they reach out the circle or the group will be taking a heavy shadow damage blast.
    - Be careful when sniping Banshees from afar to not end up chain pulling more minions than your group can handle, eventually overwhelming the party.
    - Sniping Banshees from afar is vital as their knockback ability will cause a lot of disruption.
    - Abominations reduce the healing received by tanks, capping the amount of punishment they can endure.
Phase 2
  • - Staying spread is vital in this fight as you'll be watching out for multiple targeted Area of Effect abilities
    • - Melee: It's imperative for melee DPS to never gather up too close to tanks. Seeing how Frost Blast deals damage based on maximum health, tanks will be taking a huge hit. If your main tank gets frozen, it'll likely die if your healers don't react quickly.
      - Mana users can also be target of Detonate Mana, dealing damage on expiration based on the mana destroyed.
      - If more than one target gets chained by Frost Blast you'll be in a tough situation and likely lose many players.
      - Staying spread may also help avoiding out Shadow Fissure.
    - Kel'Thuzad hates healers.
    • - As if Detonate Mana wouldn't zone out your healers enough, Kel'Thuzad will also always send his mind controlled players after your healers (healers are always chosen over any other target).
      - The design of the encounter makes it quite a long one, heavily stressing out your healers.
      - The mechanics also make it quite tricky to strike balance between saving up mana and not letting it be wasted by Detonate Mana.
    - Set up a rotation to interrupt Kel'Thuzad's Frost Bolt or your tank will need to be soaking up huge chunks of frost damage.
    - Use crowd control abilities on Mind Controlled players to spare your healers.
