80 Combat Rogue Professions

#1 » Post by Knewklear » 30 Jan 2014 04:06

To me, without a doubt, Jewelcrafting is a must-have whether you're going into PvP or PvE, but I am having trouble picking my 2nd profession. I've gone through what each profession offers. In terms of PvP, Engineering is not to be compared to anything else because it's number one for PvP, in my view. But in terms of PvE, there are so many professions. However, in my case, I want a 2nd profession that is balanced for both PvP and PvE. I was thinking Blacksmithing as it offers two extra sockets, one in gloves, and one in bracers. With those two extra sockets, I could socket an extra 2 special gems from Jewelcrafting. Your thoughts?

wouldn't the haste provided by engie gloves be beneficial for pve aswell? the rocket itself sucks bad... but maybe the haste would benefit combat just as well as it benefits assa
as for JC +BS they provide the best combination of thats with the biggest flexibility of them all, sure LW gives 10 more AP on bracer enchants or stamina than BS would give (2 socks) but maybe you need to gem for something else instead of ap/sp/stam

bottom line.. I think JC and BS would be your best choice for pve as a combat rogue since it basicly means 40 extra arp from bs and 57 extra arp from JC, a total of 97 arp.... which is... half of DBW hc if I'm not mistaken or more than half

tailoring for 400 ap cape proc may also be usefull for you... but better for assa spec
and so would enchanting for that extra AP on your rings

JC is a good choice.

BS does add alot of flexibility like what Blacklustersoldier said. You can keep changing the gems in the 2 extra sockets to better suit your current stat priority (based on your ever-changing gear). Also from what I've seen, being able to socket ArP, Hit, Str, etc is pretty much superior to having extra AP for most Mdps classes.

Engineering for PvE however shouldn't be underestimated as the glove-haste boost is pretty decent especially at high gear levels (or so I'm told). You can use it together with your other cooldowns or procs for a very good dps boost. You also get to have engineering for PvP this way.

I'm not so sure about the Tailoring Back enchant's benefit for rogues, but I was told that it isn't as good for combat.

I believe all other non-gathering professions give a standard increase of 80 AP.

JC + Engineering is best if u also use Saronite Bombs on cd in addition to the gloves enchant for haste, meanwhile the cloak & boots enchants are good too but due to changing stat priorities can be replaced with other enchants.

Every proffession (apart from engineering) provides same balanced amount of bonus, but in different form. Some provide ap (tailoring, enchanting, inscription, lw, alchemy), some provide crit (skinning), and some give u a liberty to choose (jc, bs). But the bonus provided is exactly the same in terms of stat points.

Actually Emsy, JC is slightly superior compared to other professions.

So everyone's going on about the gloves haste bonus from engineering. However, that's only for a short-term burst. Wouldn't it be better to have something long term (like special gems in extra sockets) that will last throughout an entire raid instead of just once every minute? Think of it. A boss fight can last from 1 minute to 5 (depending on which difficulty (heroic or normal) and version (10 or 25)). If a fight lasts around 2-3 minutes, you'll only be able to use the engineering haste gloves maximum one and a half times or just once whereas the special gems in the extra sockets will give you an effect that doesn't stop.

Correct, but the difference is hardly noticeable. JC gives +43 of a stat of your choice, while BS gives +40.

Blacksmithing doesn't give you stats. Only sockets. Or am I wrong?

Knewklear, 2x sockets= 40x of any stat (60 if ap, 46 spell power) but nevertheless, 40, like all other profs.
