The Difference Between BC and WotLK When Setting Up an Account

So, when I'm setting up a new account, I notice that there are three radio buttons at the bottom: "Vanilla," "BC," and "WotLK." If I choose BC, I assume the server is "simulating" BC - but to what extent? XP rates are the same as BC? Hunters have to tame new pets in order to learn new skills? Initial starting zones have hostile instead of neutral mobs?

If there is a FAQ that I've missed that addresses this, sorry, I didn't see it.

Hello.

Whatever you select is not changing any gameplay settings, just content that you can discover with your characters.
Having it locked to vanilla, for example, will not let you to enter outland or northrend.

With that being said, you can enter all our realms no matter what selected. Only the content will be affected and can always be changed in your account manager. I do however recommend to set WoTLK.

All in all, this is mainly for people who wishes to reprogress with a progressive guild or likewise.
