Opinions about the creation of blizz-like friendly events.

#1 » Post by Eddywars » 27 Dec 2014 01:26

Hello, I'm Eddie and I've been around since the time of spermik where I transfed characters. I've been playing WoW since 2.3.3 and I pretty much know almost every basic things of WoW up to the patch 3.3.5.
I'm here to come up with an idea to regrow this server as everyone knows things can get a bit boring at some time and, instead of afking at Dalaran as a 80 or struggling for gold and item as a new-comer why not do somthing else? Here's my idea:

I've thought about creating once in awhile small blizz-like event or events being the main one I will be focusing here the Hide and Seek. For those who don't know what is this about I will explain. It's a game where one character hides somewhere from Azeroth to a city or zone and tell in the world chat that they are hiding soomewhere, and to make things more interesting some riddles or hints can be spoken to help with the promisse of a reward at the end if found by someone.

I've tried to make a similiar event on my own, (created a gnome death knight, went for noggers and anti-track potions and even asked 80s to cook small feast as these were the easier items to make me smaller), and went for Stormwind to hide in a specifc district then told in world chat if I was /point I would give 200g to the first person, but soon there was some problems I couldn't do much about to make the game just and fair for everyone, for instance, there were players who could cheat by creating a /target macro, others toggled the nameplates on and some others thought this was a lame idea because the gold wasn't worth the effort put into looking for me. In order to solve this I thought about having stealth, but again low- levels couldn't find me so it wasn't fair for them. I thought in raising the reward but again those who knew how to come around would just be an easy way to get gold.
On the other hand, those who actaully participated in this really liked the idea because some were simply bored and even gave back the gold to cheer me up to post more and others low-levels took the reward and really enjoyed the gold.

This is my main idea of an event, sure there are others but would not be as much blizz-like friendly as this one for example a race from X to Y or a charade to get a grey "trash" item from a mob and trade to proove it..

TL;DR - Make from time to time an hide and seek event somewhere with cosmetic or fun rewards.

Hope you enjoyed the idea, tell me what you think.
Edit: A pool was added, in all cases of answers I would like to see why you voted that option. Thanks

okay but how does this exactly contribute to the 'regrowth' of the server?

Back on spermik i remember a GM made an event, perhaps called football, can't remember. It was an Alliance vs Horde event where each faction was supposed to escort one of it's members (as chosen before the game) to a specific location. Both teams were divided into attacking and defending teams (before the start of the game).

That event was a lot of fun, i still remember a few moments. Alliance won, of course. Would be nice to see something like that again.
Avala - Level 80 Rogue
Paticrko - Level 80 Death Knight
Caladiirn - Level 80 Paladin

There are lots of events that can be implemented if you got a GM toon with the rank to do this. But this requires GMs to have time to do this. I know I was doing lots of events on a server i used to be a GM but that one closed years ago. Of course not everyone will participate in them but some people will like to get out of the "afk in Dalaran" routine. You can have hide and seek events, random sieges on different cities, mazes build under some zones or change zones not accessible to players (this is why you need a GM char so you can be able to port players during the events there and just improvise, use your creativity and design events). I enjoyed doing that but it can take a lot of time....

And there were also rewards for the participants and not something that can affect the game. Things like gold, stuff that you can obtain and have fun with a certain item for a number of hours (like the broom in Halloween event) and so on.

I like your idea but I doubt the GMs will have the time to do these things and if you do it as a normal player not many people will participate in it but if you think you can pull some events off I encourage you to do it. :D

As much as I love to play WoW, at some point things will get boring, expecially when you have done everything from this patch and content, some players like I did, will stop coming, but eventualy come back just to check up on hows the server, like me. I believe this is an opportunity to make things different.

I have been on Truewow since 2010, and this is something that the server is sadly missing, something to bring the community together.

However, GM's actually wanting to do this as well as having the time to do it, needs to be taken into consideration.

I just made an event in Stormwind for 280g, lasted 25 minutes to find me and people were actualy looking for me. I asked if the winner wanted the gold and he answered back no because he was just doing this for fun. Just in case you want to check up with my event character its named Ili.
