I got the Ley Line Focus Control Ring from Captain Emmy Malin but using the ring on the Ley Line Focus (many times, in different positions) does nothing. i.e. it buffs for 3 seconds and then nothing, when it should, in some way, retrieve information.

The problem seems to have changed now for this quest: I've gathered 27 knothide leather, mostly from scraps (= ~135 kills) and have not had any meat at all from the derranged helboar - they should have a droprate of 41%.
